Packing tips:
(thanks
to other PC bloggers out there for this info)
- USPS
standard mail is the cheapest. Save money by going with a flat-rate box.
USPS Express mail, FedEx, UPS etc. will likely not arrive any sooner.
- Use
tons of tape!
- For
customs declarations, stick with “Educational materials” or “religious
materials.” Do not write “Candy,” “DVDs” or “Clothes” on
the customs slip, as this will almost guarantee my package will be
“inspected.” Declare the package value at $10 or less.
- Write
the address clearly and include the words “Airmail” and “Par Avion” on
package.
- Some
say it doesn't hurt to draw crosses, and write religious phrases like,
“God is watching” on the box to discourage sticky fingers.
- If
you’re sending a postcard, put it in an envelope to keep it from getting
swiped.
- It will take about 3-5 weeks for me to get mail, but if you don’t hear from me for a while after you ship something, let me know to be on the lookout.
Wish List:
- Postcards or letters
- Photos
- Hand sanitizer
- Travel toilet paper (at outdoor stores, wrapped tight/easier to pack for travel)
- Magazines/news or trashy mags (Newsweek, Time, People, National Geographic, US Weekly, Popular Science)
- New American music, TV shows and movies that you think I should hear/see (burned on CD or flash drive)
- Snack food – Cheetos (my favorite), Starburst, Skittles, Goldfish, Cheez Its, cookies, granola bars, pistachios, Slim Jims, trail mix
- Any food you can make by just adding hot water
- Good-smelling bath products like hand soap, body wash, 2 in one shampoo, (no lavender, vanilla, or cherry, please)
- Anything else that you think I will find awesome :)
